What a digital signature costs

The number on the pricing page is half the story. Here is what you are actually paying for, and where the bill usually surprises people.

September 18, 2026

Most businesses compare e-signature tools on one number: the monthly price. That is the surest way to overpay. The monthly figure decides what you are allowed to do; what decides your actual bill is what gets counted — signatures, documents, users or messages — and what an overage costs.

What you are actually paying for

Behind every price list sits one decision: what the provider chose to measure. That decision, not the number, is what sets your bill at the end of the year.

  • Per signature or per document — you pay for everything that goes out. Easy to understand, and expensive in exactly your busiest month.
  • Per user (seat) — you pay for each person in the office who sends, however much they send.
  • Per message — WhatsApp delivery costs the provider real money, so it is almost always counted separately.
  • Per capability — templates, multi-step signing or branding removal are sometimes sold as add-ons.

Three models, and what each says about you

Volume pricing
Suits a low, steady sender. The risk is seasonality: a practice signing 300 documents in the three weeks around a filing deadline pays for the peak, not the average.
Seat pricing
Suits an office where headcount is stable and volume is not. You pay for who works, not how much they worked — and a busy month costs nothing extra.
Unlimited
Suits anyone whose volume is unpredictable. The real value is not the quantity but the quiet: you send without doing arithmetic, and price stops being a consideration inside the work.

The costs that are not on the price list

  • Going over the limit — ask what happens to the document after your last one. Ours stops and offers a prorated upgrade, rather than a per-document charge that accumulates quietly.
  • WhatsApp messages — counted per signer, so a two-signer contract spends two conversations on one document. That is exactly why our allowance is double the document count on every metered plan.
  • Extra users — an office growing from one person to three can triple the bill without sending a single extra document.
  • Branding and templates — check whether they are in the plan or an add-on. Ours are unlimited from the first plan.

How to pick a plan without guessing

Do not start from the price. Start from three questions you can already answer, then read the price list.

  • How many documents go out in your busiest month — not the average. The plan has to survive the peak.
  • How many people in the office actually send documents for signature.
  • How many signers a typical document has — that is what drives WhatsApp consumption.
