Frequently asked questions
What customers ask before sending their first document — about the law, the process and the price.
Are electronic signatures legal and admissible in Israel?
Yes. Israel’s Electronic Signature Law, 2001 provides that a document may not be denied admissibility merely because it was signed electronically, and Israeli courts accept electronic signatures as evidence. The question actually examined is evidentiary: who signed, what exactly they signed, and whether the document has changed since. That is why every BasmaSign document comes back with an evidence pack — viewing records, one-time-code identity verification, the moment of signing, and a cryptographic seal that fixes the file.
The law also defines higher statutory tiers that rely on a certificate from an external certification authority. BasmaSign does not claim those tiers: the product is an admissible electronic signature with a complete evidence pack — which is what most business documents need. A few document types, such as wills, require a specific statutory form and are not suited to electronic signing.
How does signing a document over WhatsApp work?
Three steps, usually under a minute on the signer’s side:
- Upload a document, mark where signatures go, and send — your client gets a WhatsApp message with a personal link.
- They open it on their phone, verify their identity with a one-time code, read and sign with a finger.
- Both sides receive the signed document, digitally sealed, with the full evidence pack.
What does the signer need to install or open?
Nothing. No app, no registration, no password. The link opens in the phone’s browser, the signature is drawn with a finger, and everything happens in the signer’s language — Hebrew, Arabic or English, their choice, independent of yours.
What is in the evidence pack?
Every step in the document’s life is written to an append-only record: when it was sent, when it was viewed, how the signer’s identity was verified, when it was signed and when it was delivered. On completion the file is sealed cryptographically, so any later change — even a single character — is immediately visible. The pack presents as one whole: who, what, when, and by what means.
Where are documents stored, and what protects them?
Documents are encrypted in transit and at rest and kept in versioned, retention-locked cloud storage: a signed document cannot be edited or replaced — not even by us. Access is limited to your account, and every action is logged. The full picture is on the security & legality page.
What does it cost, and what does “unlimited” mean?
Start free — 3 documents a month, no credit card. Paid plans start at ₪29/month, and the Office plan at ₪99/month includes unlimited documents — no counting, no quota. WhatsApp conversations are metered separately because Meta charges per conversation; each plan’s allowance is printed on the pricing page, and prices exclude VAT.
Which languages does it work in?
Hebrew, Arabic and English — at the same quality. The interface, the signing screen, the messages and the accompanying documents are written in all three, and right-to-left is the design’s default, not an add-on. The signer picks their own language regardless of the one you work in.
How is the signer’s identity verified?
Before seeing the document, the signer enters a one-time code sent to them, tying the signature to the phone number you addressed. The verification, its time and the verified number are recorded in the evidence pack.
Does the signer get a copy of what they signed?
Yes, always. On completion the signer receives the final signed document — not a screenshot, not a temporary link. We treat this as part of the signature itself: a document signed but never delivered to its signer is not a finished process.
Who operates BasmaSign?

How do I cancel, and what happens to documents afterwards?
